Sealcoating can be a tricky subject for many of us, thankfully Mid-State Sealcoating, with years of industry experience, is here to help dispel some myths and help you better understand the in’s and out’s of alphalt sealcoating.
Q.1. Why sealcoat?
A.1. Asphalt driveways pavement is made of materials such as asphalt binder, fine sands, and stones. However, although the binder helps to hold these materials together, it significantly deteriorates on exposure to rain, snow, sun’s UV rays, household chemicals, and motor oil among other substances. A sealcoat protects the pavement from these harmful agents thereby prolonging its lifespan.
Q.2. Can a sealer be used on concrete?
A.2. No. Although a sealer will protect your pavement from destructive agents such as water and oil spills, it does not bond well with concrete.
Q.3. How often should I go for sealcoating?
A.3. Generally, you can sealcoat your asphalt pavement every 2 to 3 years. However, it all depends on factors such as the amount of traffic and weather. Areas with moderate or heavy traffic require sealing more regularly than those with low traffic.
Q.4. Can I use a sealer to fill cracks and holes?
A.4. Hot. Depressions/holes and cracks should be filled with hot asphalt before a sealcoat is applied. Given that it is not flexible, it may not move enough when used on cracks when temperatures change. Too thick sealer also flakes off.
Q.5. Is there need to worry when my vehicle leaks on my sealed pavement?
A.5. Sealers are both gas and oil resistant. However, no product can withstand a spill that is left for a long time. When your car leaks, it is advisable to clean the oil to ensure your sealer continues to protect your pavement from further damage.
Q.6. How do I apply sealcoat

A.7. You can drive or park on your driveway within 24 hours after the application especially during dry times. However, contact us anytime if you are unsure whether your newly-sealed parking lot is ready for use.
Q.8. What are the weather requirements when sealcoating?
A.8. Seal coat should be applied when temperatures are at least 50 degrees and rising for a day. When rain is imminent within a day, sealcoating should not be applied.
Q.9. What special preparations are required before sealcoating?
A.9. Your asphalt pavement should be thoroughly cleaned and all loose dirt should be removed. In case there are repairs such as potholes, a suitable cold or hot asphalt mix should be used. Our crew will do most of these activities. However, you should remove dumpsters, equipment, vehicles etc. to enable us to start working immediately we get to your premises.
Q.10. What time will you arrive for sealcoating?

However, you can always call us on 774-530-1808 to get the most accurate estimate on when we will get to your home.
